Tone

1. What else can we call tone in a film? The Tone in the film is the way that it makes the audience feel.
2. What are the 3 main elements of tone? Lighting, Exposure, and Director.

4. How can the directors control the feeling of this film? By using Tone.

Over The Shoulder (OVS)

1. What is the effect of an Over the shoulder shot? Your feelings about the on-screen actor's state of mind are informed by the presence of the off-screen actor's shoulder in the frame
2. What film aspect shows a disconnection between characters? A single over the shoulder shot will disconnect the character.
3. How does the director of this scene show the disconnection of the characters? Any visual absence within the frame will create emotional disconnection within the mind of the viewer.
4. What eventually isolates the female character? By using the single close up frame Isolated the female character.

Contrast

1. What are the ways directors can contrast in a film? Tone, Production Design, Blocking, Camera movement, and Color.
2. What is contrasted in Spike Jonze's ad? Everything.
3. Why did he contrast these things? To tell a story of someone constricted break free.

Dutch Angle

1. The dutch angle does what? To signal something disorienting and unsettling.
2. What is a dutch angle? A dutch angle is a shot that has a noticeable tilt on the camera's x-axis.
3. When and who created the dutch angle? It was created by the Germans expressionists in the early 1900s.
4. What 3 things do directors consider for the dutch angle? Enhance the moment, Identify and Consider.
5. What 4 things can enhance a dutch angle? Degree of the tilt, Camera Height, Lens Choice, and Depth of field.

Film Blocking
