1.5 ENGLISH FORMAL PERSUASIVE WRITING

 In this essay, I will be arguing about the importance of having friends over money. In today’s generation, money may seem more valuable than friends but money can't buy you happiness.

 If you chose money over friends your life would be lonely. Yes, money can buy stuff that can make you happy but it can only provide us with temporary happiness through materialistic things whereas with friends they can show you all their love and support and how much they care for you and how to have fun without the use of money.

 If you are wise enough to know the worth between money and friends you should be able to make the right decisions on which one is worth more in life.  

If you have no money you can always ask your friends to borrow some money from them and you could just pay them back later on. What if you run out of money? You won’t have anything left to live for because you decided to choose money over friends. For instance, with friends, you lose some and you gain some that are just part of the reality of life.  Some people do prefer to be alone for the rest of their life, therefore, it’ll be easy for them to choose money over friends, but if you choose money over friends just because you want to and how it could benefit temporarily then you’re just choosing that choice out of satisfaction.

 Having money on you won’t always make you happy and won’t help with the needs of your mental and emotional well being. In fact, money can help you in some type of way to deal with your mental and emotional well being but it will only be temporary, whereas with friends it can be permanent because they’re the ones that can you help you with whatever especially the friends that you are really close with, you will be able to open up to them tell them about your thoughts and feelings and how your day went instead of keeping it all bottled up in your head and having to keep your thoughts to yourself. But if you open up to your friends they can help you in many ways and they actually care about your thoughts and feelings.  

To conclude in this essay I’m more likely to survive with friends by my side rather than money.

Pathos is a method of convincing people with an argument drawn out through an emotional response

ETHOS: Ethos is a way of appealing to an audience by showing one's credibility and ethical character. This is one of the three modes of persuasion in rhetoric, as distinguished by Aristotle, the other two being pathos and logos.

LOGOS: Logos, along with ethos and pathos, is one of the three "modes of persuasion" in rhetoric (the art of effective speaking or writing). Logos is an argument that appeals to an audience's sense of logic or reason. For example, when a speaker cites scientific data, methodically walks through the line of reasoning behind their argument, or precisely recounts historical events relevant to their argument, he or she is using logos.

Creative Writing 1.4

                 My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Recap from 8 years ago, I was in a healthy happy relationship until one night me and Rebecca (my ex) went out to one of my friend’s 18th birthday parties. Everyone was having fun and enjoying themselves until I had too much to drink and couldn’t control myself. Then I ran into this random girl at the party and I kissed her I didn’t know what I was doing until one of our friends saw me kissing the random girl so she zoomed off to go tell Rebecca what happened. After a minute or two, Rebecca came up to me and asked if I kissed the random girl but I denied it. After she asked me we both went home together and went to bed. 

The next morning I was hoping she was going to forget about what happened last night but she wouldn’t stop she kept on asking me over and over again until I got sick of it and told her we should just break up, but she said “NO, I DON’T WANT TO BREAK UP WITH YOU” in a very aggressive way after she yelled at me I thought to myself saying I felt like she had a different personality because I’ve never heard her yell at me or talk to me this way. After a while, she wanted to have a serious conversation about our relationship and what we could do to fix this relationship, so she came up with some ideas and said she wanted me to stop talking to girls and hanging out with them and I wasn’t allowed to go out to places unless she was by my side 24/7 but I didn’t like the idea of that. So I told her I didn’t like that and I asked why she wants me to only have friends that are boys and not girls, and she replied with because “YOU’RE ONLY MINE AND NO ONE ELSE’S!!!!” when she yelled she was as loud as a barking dog, and at that time I thought she was a bit crazy, to be honest. So I just left things off from there and made my breakfast while she went off to work. 

The next day before she left for work she told me I couldn’t invite anyone over not even my parents and at first, I didn’t think of it as anything. So she went through the front door to leave for work then I heard about 3 or 5 locks locking on the door coming from outside so I ran up to the door and looked through the side window there were 5 locks on the door, then I ran to check all the windows and it was all boarded up. I got so worried, I was trying to look everywhere for my phone so I could get a hold of my Rebecca or someone that I knew but my phone was nowhere to be found. So I just waited for Rebecca to come home so I could ask her where my phone was, why the wifi wires were cut off and why are the windows are blocked off. 

So in the evening about 6 pm it was getting dark outside then, I heard Rebecca’s car coming up the driveway her car is small but it’s as loud as the engine of a tractor. Then I sat patiently on the couch waiting for Rebecca to walk through the door. As soon as she walked through the door I stood up and started asking her all these questions, like “why the internet was cut off, why the windows were blocked off and why so many locks on the door” but she just stood there and stared at me for a solid 30 seconds and said, “because you’re not allowed to talk, look or think about anyone but me, I come first not your family, not your friends only ME!” after she told me that I told her that we’re going to break up so I started packing my clothes into my bag then she tried to stop me she told me not leave her so I shoved her out of my way and was walking towards the door she then grabbed my hand and told me “DONT LEAVE ME OR YOU’RE GOING TO REGRET IT” I told her to let go of me so I could leave, she then let go of me and I walked out the door onto the driveway. As I was walking down the driveway I heard the backdoor close, I ignore because I thought she was just locking up when I reached the end of the driveway I looked back and I saw Rebecca holding an ax so I panicked, dropped my bags and ran down the street while I was running down the street I looked behind me and Rebecca was there again I heard her yelling out “YOU CAN’T RUN AWAY FROM ME JOHN” so I quickly hid around the corner behind the bush for a while then suddenly I heard loud, heavy footsteps and I could hear her ax swinging back and forth so I popped out the bush and she tried swinging her ax at me so I swung at her, then while she was on the ground I was booting her head in and then I grabbed Rebecca and her ax while she was knocked out, then I drove somewhere in the middle of the woods and buried her alive.

Three months later I started to get my life back together and I found a new girlfriend that’s actually not crazy hopefully and moved on with my life.

Film Aspect

Chopsuey

Ingredients:

• Carrots
• Vermicelli noodles
• Mixed vegetables
• Soy sauce

Before we started cooking we sprayed the table with anti-bacterial spray we the got a clean dry cloth and wiped it down. I did this just in case there were little food particles from the previous classes.

Food prep:

Chopped our beef with the red board because it was red meat I also used a red knife to match the board. I did this to avoid cross-contamination. I am avoiding cross-contamination by carrying the meat from a plate to a board so the blood from the meat doesn't drip on all the other foods that are on the table.

Washed vegetables to get all the dirt and soil that was on the vegetable, I did this to get all the bacteria and germs to prevent us from getting sick.

L1: Ham Wraps

Ingredients:

• 1/2 Tomato
• Carrot slices
• Baby Spinach
• Ham
• Wrap
• Mayonaise
• BBQ sauce
• Sweet Chilli Sauce

Method:

The first thing we did was get our ingredients ready (Mis - en - place), then we got our wraps and placed them on a plate after we did that we got our vegetables, meat, and sauces. Then we placed our ingredients down in lanes onto our wrap, after we placed our ingredients onto the wrap we folded the wrap at the top bit than we did the sides then we rolled it up. After we've prepared our wrap we cut in half and started eating.

Prior: Tie your hair up(To prevent it from getting it onto the food when cooking), Washing hands (To make sure there is no dirt or anything before you start cooking), Wear Apron ( To prevent food from going onto your clothes), Wiping the tables down ( Making sure it's clean before you put food on it)

During: Chose the right board for the right food category ( To avoid cross-contamination), Use the right knife that matches the cutting boards.

After: Clear the table, Wash the dishes that you have used, Dry and putting the dishes 

away and put them in the correct places, Wipe the table down after use of it, Take apron off and put in a laundry basket.

Why was the treaty needed?

Why Was A Treaty Needed In New Zealand?

Historians argue that understanding the causes of significant events is much more important than just remembering dates, facts, and figures about things in the past. The Treaty is an agreement between the Maori and the British people signed in 1840. The Treaty of Waitangi was needed because the British people were being lawless so they needed rules and laws to follow. 

There was lawless behavior when Whaler's arrived in New Zealand. Without the treaty Whaler's would be disrespectful and lawless. However, after the Treaty was created and signed, their behavior has been reduced due to laws and agreements that have been decided between Maori and Europeans. For example, Prostitution, Serious drinking, and Fighting. These type of behaviors occurs due to serious drinking when the Europeans arrived. Right after the laws and agreement are been decided between Maori and Europeans, it helped Maoris and Europeans reduce lawless behavior.

The missionaries were trying to protect the Maori and their rights. The missionaries influenced the Maori to sign the Treaty. For example, buying land for the Maori people, helping Maori to read and write and Farming. The missionaries encouraged the Maori to sign the treaty because this was the best way to help protect Maori and their rights.

The introduction of muskets to New Zealand caused a series of wars, known today as the Musket Wars. Maori traded foods with the Pakeha for muskets. Maori used muskets to fight other Maori tribes for Land or Revenge. The musket wars killed over 20,000 people during the war. This helped the Maori people protect their tribes, lands, and revenge. When all Maori tribes got access to the muskets it had a military balance between all Maori tribes. The Musket Wars increased violence and death because there were no laws around the ownership/trading of muskets. A Treaty prevents this and provides stability.

Was there anything in place before the treaty?
The Declaration of Independence was in place before the Treaty of Waitangi. 34 Northland chiefs (Rangitiratanga) made a deal. The effect of no meeting is important because there were no laws created to protect Maori as had been agreed in the Declaration, There was no intent for a congress of chiefs to meet annually under the Declaration and frame laws but this did not happen. The Declaration bought Maori together as before this there was no national Maori identity. The Treaty of Waitangi was needed to create laws and protect the Maoris.

Color is used effectively to create an atmosphere. We see this in the two scenes - District 12 at the beginning and the Capitol as Katniss and Peeta arrive. In District 12 we see a natural palette of browns, greys, and greens whereas is the Capitol people wear bright colors and a metallic palette of greys, silvers, and white is used. This makes us understand that things in District 12 are dark, old, and gloomy whilst living in the Capitol easy, crowded, and futuristic. The director did this to show the imbalance of Rich vs Poor. This shows life is hard and people are poor in the districts, but in the Capitol life is easy.

Music and silence are used effectively to create a foreboding (evil) atmosphere in the Reaping scene. In the Reaping scene, the tributes from District 12 are selected and we see Katniss volunteer as a tribute for her sister. The male tribute selected was Peeta. Silence is used when Effie draws out and reads the tributes names to make us feel like the moment is real to make us focus and draw out the suspense. The director has done this to make the audience feel worried about who will be chosen. Musc has used to introduce the audience to Peeta when his name is drawn The music is predominantly minor and has a slow tempo which makes us feel sad and worried like Peeta. this is combined with close - up shots of Peeta's worried facial expressions to draw the viewer in.

In the reaping scene, the costume is used effectively to show the imbalance between the rich and poor of Panam. For instance, the children of district 12 all look alike in dull, simple and overworn clothing. In contrast, Effie Trinket wearing bright colors, a large wig, and headpiece and excessive makeup. This makes the audience feel sorry for the people of district 12 because Effie is a symbol of the wealth in the capital. we see that not everyone lives in poverty. The director did this to show the hard life of those in Katniss's home district. Coinciding with Effie's behavior. She is loud, happy and confident while the people of the district are quiet and scared. This can be juxtaposed to the scene where Katniss and Peeta arrive in the Capital. In this scene, everyone else is rich and clean and they are the different ones.
